Thar was a big day for players anticipating next week's launch of Aion's Ascension and the title's conversion to free-to-play. Once server maintenance is completed, players will have a new server, subscriptions will be discontinued, and the doors will reopen for inactive accounts.

Starting today, players will be able to log into the new Kahrun server to create characters and reserve names; however, actual play will not be possible until the launch on April 11th. Catering to the Central Time Zone, all sieges, arena timers, and the like will be based on CST.

All accounts are also changing from subscriptions to the Truly Free model, eliminating all billing. Still have a month, three months, or even a year of time left? In compensation, NCsoft is crediting players by converting all remaining game time to NCoin at a ratio of 40 NCoin per remaining day. Don't panic if you don't see the credit immediately; it might take a couple of days to process everything.

On top of all this, all inactive accounts in good standing are reactivating today to give Daevas a chance to prepare for 3.0. So dust off those wings and jump back in!

EVE Online : CSM Chairman Announces Resignation, Issues Apology

The chairman of the EVE Online Council of Stellar Management has announced his intention to resign from his position as a result of an event last week in which a suicidal player was mocked during FanFest. The panel discussion was billed as "unfiltered" but, according to Gianturco, his actions were unacceptable.

According to a post on the EVE forums, Gianturco indicated that he was over intoxicated and didn't realize what he had said though he also qualified that this was not an excuse for his behavior.

    I feel absolutely ashamed of my behavior at the Alliance Panel. It's one thing to play a villain in an online roleplaying game - when I post on these forums or on twitter, I usually do so as 'The Mittani', and do my level best to convince everyone that I'm an unrepentant space villain, as that kind of facade provides an in-game advantage to me and my alliance. But I am not that character in real life, as anyone who has met me can attest. I went way, way, /way/ past the line on Thursday night by mocking the Mackinaw miner at a real-life event. I, as a person, am not the entity that I play in EVE; I am not actually a sociopath or a sadist, and I certainly don't want people to kill themselves in real life over an internet spaceship game, no matter what I may say or do within the game itself. CCP may say 'EVE is Real', but EVE is not real - and the line between the game and reality should not be overstepped.

As yet, Gianturco has not completed his resignation though he has indicated that he will do so via his Mittani Twitter account. We'll keep you posted as the story develops.

What the heck is a Big Ass Monster in TERA?

Basically, beginning around level 18 or so, you’ll be able to seek out these BAMs either alone or in a group and attempt to defeat them. Unlike world bosses in your typical MMO, I was able to find tons of the first type of BAM found in the game, the Basilisk, in their designated hunting grounds of the Oblivion Woods. These creatures have a boatload of HP and hit like a truck, but if you’re skilled enough, you can solo some (or maybe all?) of them. 

I’m pretty comfortable with TERA’s combat system at this point, but even so, I opted to roll with a group for my first go at a Basilisk. While this creature isn’t the biggest monster you’ve ever seen in an MMO, he will definitely give you a run for your money. Like TERAs normal creatures, BAMs have their own special attacks and tells for those attacks. The difference is, reacting poorly to these tells and taking a hit can spell certain death for all but the hardiest of classes. The Basilisk moved around a lot, forcing our party to reposition frequently, and he had a number of devastating attacks at his disposal, including a conical flame breath attack, a claw swipe, and even a move where he’d leap high into the air and come crashing down on the party. I got familiar with that last one by the tail end of the fight.

With a party of four, I’m not going to say the encounter was altogether challenging as it wasn’t. It was a pretty straightforward fight for me as a Warrior, though I imagine there may have been a lot more to it for the tank as he had to manage mitigating the Basilisk’s special abilities. I think what will really set these creatures apart is the challenge of soloing them. A simple search on YouTube will bring up tons of videos of other players soloing Basilisks and boasting about how fast they were able to take him down. TERA’s action combat ensures that a really skilled player may be able to take down creatures that would otherwise shred them apart in a toe-to-toe fight, and I feel this potential to solo these giant dangerous creatures will end up being the primary draw for people looking for a challenge.

While everyone may be up in arms over various Mists news, we are still playing throughCataclysm, of course. Today, we've got a few more hotfixes for patch 4.3 posted by Kaivax over at the official Warcraft blog. It's a pretty short list, but there are a few important changes and adjustments being made.

• Healers coming back via Scroll of Resurrection will no longer find strength on their starter sets.
• In Madness of Deathwing, Burning Blood will no longer prematurely spike to 100 stacks if you happen to damage the Arm and Wing Tentacles quickly.
